  • The aim of this study was to validate ACRES MODIS Surface reflectance products generated with the NASA MOD09 algorithm. Due to the difficulty of finding suitable ground targets at the MODIS resolution a comparison was undertaken with near coincident Landsat ETM+ data. The Landsat ETM+ data were corrected to surface reflectance by the Department of Natural Resource Mines and Water (SLATS group) using the Second Simulation of Satellite Signal in the Solar Spectrum (6S) algorithm and MISR aerosol data. This Landsat data had been validated using ground spectra collected at the time of satellite overpass. MODIS data were spectrally re-sampled to simulate ETM+ band passes and ETM+ data were spatially averaged to MODIS 500m pixel resolution. This comparison provided important information on the quality of corrections applied to ACRES MODIS surface reflectance products.
